When you contact us for tick control…

We take the same formula found in our mosquito barrier and spray the entire lawn during our first visit in mid to late April. That eliminates ticks in the lawn, leaf litter, mulch beds and tall grass areas. We follow it up with our traditional five-step barrier treatment, which keeps ticks out.

Did you know ticks arrive before mosquitoes and hang out longer? Ticks become active once the ground temperature is above 45°F, so it is important to have a plan in place in advance — not after the first one turns up on a pant leg.

Ticks arrive before mosquitoes and hang around longer — which is why the plan has to be in place before you see the first one.

Our process

How tick control actually runs

A whole-yard reset first, then a barrier that holds through the season.

First application

First

Mid to late April, once the ground is above 45°F: the entire lawn is sprayed, along with leaf litter, mulch beds and any tall grass. This is the one visit where the grass itself gets treated, because that is where ticks wait.

Barrier application

Barrier

The traditional five-step barrier treatment follows, concentrating on the edges, shrub lines and shaded beds ticks move through — the same places they travel in from the woods.

Tick Tube application

Tick Tube

Rodents are one of the biggest carriers of ticks. Tick Tubes put permethrin-treated cotton where mice collect it for nesting material, so ticks feeding on those mice die — reaching the part of the problem a spray never touches.

Follow-up application

Follow-up

Each treatment lasts about 30 days. If you are not completely satisfied with a treatment, call within 14 days and we come back and re-spray at no additional charge.

Frequently asked questions

Tick Control FAQs

When do you start treating for ticks?
The first application goes down in mid to late April. Ticks become active once the ground temperature is above 45°F — earlier than mosquitoes — so the plan has to be in place before you see them.
How long does the tick lawn treatment take?
Around 30 minutes, and upwards of an hour depending on the size of the lawn.
Do you spray the grass for ticks?
Yes. For tick prevention we treat the grass during the first application in mid to late April, along with the landscaping and leaf litter — ticks live in all three. (For mosquito-only service we skip the grass, because mosquitoes do not shelter there.)
What are Tick Tubes?
Cardboard tubes holding cotton treated with permethrin — the same insecticide sold to hikers and campers for treating clothing and tents. Mice and other rodents carry the cotton back to line their nests, the insecticide works into their fur, and ticks feeding on those rodents die. They reach where a spray cannot, and they work alongside a spray program rather than replacing it.
